Grilled Jack Cheese Applesauce Sandwiches

Grilled Jack Cheese Applesauce Sandwiches
Are you ready for Fall apples and a nip in the air?   We are around here, Grilled Jack Cheese Applesauce Sandwiches, showcase, sourdough bread, apples, cheese, and a little squeeze!

The first thing we did this last Spring was plant fruit trees, three apples in particular.  Saturday we harvested about a dozen apples from our little trees…so happy apple week.

Grilled Jack Cheese Applesauce Sandwiches

Grilled Jack Cheese and Applesauce Sandwiches were my cousin, Cheryl’s, college creation.  I traveled to see her and we made her blissful creations for all of her roommates and their dates.  We went through a huge brick of cheese, making sandwich after sandwich.  When the masses were full we finally got a chance to try one ourselves.  I’ve been a huge fan ever since, the bread is tangy, the applesauce is sweet, and the cheese is rich and gooey.  They are a gratifying twist on a traditional grilled cheese sandwich, toasted on a hot griddle.  More recently I have using my panini press and it is the best way to cook on and make it pretty!

I like to use sourdough bread, the best Jack Cheese out there, applesauce and a little butter.

Slather one side of both slices of bread with applesauce, add generous slices of cheese, slap it together, and lightly butter the tops.  Place it on a hot skillet, I use medium heat, and give it a little squeeze.  Watch it carefully and turn when it is golden brown.  Keep watching till the second side is toasty too.

Now slice it in half and serve it with a crunchy side salad, with fresh apples of course.

Toss sliced apples with baby greens, radicchio, toasted walnuts, and feta cheese.  Now stir some balsamic vinegar with a little pear chutney and some olive oil and it was a slightly sweet, pungent vinaigrette.   It was perfection…just saying….ever so humbly.

Enjoy this most glorious time of the year, and an apple {one way or another} each day.

Thanks for stopping by!

I would never have thought of applesauce and toasted cheese sandwiches! Where do you come up with stuff like this! Sounds scrumptious.

Wow! Apples already from a newly planted tree?
Amazing what a fruit tree will do when it’s not getting its roots frozen off 8 months out of the year. We’re supposed to get snow on Friday. Makes you miss it doesn’t it?

    Gnee,
Sounds delicious. I will file this idea away for a later date. Today is damp and rainy so a beef stew is under way.

What a yummy combination of ingredients for a grilled sandwich! I make grilled cheese all the time but never thought to spread on some applesauce.

OK, I’m just about to DIE with this one! My husband loves the taste of apples and cheese more than just about anything (besides farina… the man is a farina nut.) He also loves grilled cheese sandwiches AND he loves applesauce, AND he loves MJ cheese the best of all.

I am definitely going to introduce him to this treat when he gets home. He’ll just love it. Why, he might just pop the question all over again.

All of your photos are fantabulous! I have had apples in the melted cheese sandwich before, but not with applesauce. Sounds wonderful. Just love the photo of the apples in the leaves.

You are hysterical – a pot party!
