My sister reports that she ate carefully over Thanksgiving, except for this yummy cake she just couldn’t leave alone.  She said, “It was crazy good!”

Ya know how they say everything’s,”Big as all hell and half of Texas,” well this cake is!  After a small nibble it is going to be shared by four new families that have recently moved into our neighborhood, thank goodness!

Maple Nut Sheet Cake

My husband adores Maple Bars. When I made this sheet cake he absolutely loved it and suggested I make it again when we had friends over for game-day brunch!
Serves: 48 servings
Ingredients
Maple Nut Cake
  • ¾ cup butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1-1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons maple extract
Icing
  • ½ cup butter
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 3-1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1 cup walnuts, chopped
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Boil water and butter in a saucepan.
  3. Cream eggs, sugar, and sour cream in mixer or large mixing bowl.
  4. In a separate bowl combine dry ingredients. Begin alternating the butter/water mixture and dry mixture into the egg/sugar mixture. Add maple extract and mix well.
  5. Pour into a greased 15 x 10" pan.
  6. Bake at 350 degrees for 22 minutes or until cake tests done in the center.
  7. While cake is baking, start the icing.
  8. Boil butter and milk in a small saucepan. Remove from heat and add sugar and maple extract. Mix until smooth. Fold in walnuts.
  9. Pour over cake about 5 minutes after it comes out of the oven. Spread evenly.
  10. Enjoy warm or cold, cut to 48 bars and serve.

I can go past most donuts in the store, but the maple frosted ones just call out my name. This looks like a whole sheetcake of maple naughtiness. We will have to try this! Yum.

A maple sheet cake? Big as Texas? I can’t wait for my mom to see this. She loves maple so I hope she gets all inspired to make it.

Yeah, I know I could make it myself, but hers would be better. I jusssst know it.

I’ve been in TX for 7 years now and hadn’t heard of this. Maybe I need to educate my neighbors! Looks easy enough for even me!

I’m visiting from the Tip Me Tuesday hop.

I’ve made chocolate sheet cake, white sheet cake and PB sheet cake so I think there’s a good chance I will be making a maple sheet cake soon. Love anything maple, this looks great.
