My husband adores Maple Bars. When I made this sheet cake he absolutely loved it and suggested I make it again when we had friends over for game-day brunch!
Serves: 48 servings
Ingredients
Maple Nut Cake
¾ cup butter
1 cup water
1-1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
½ cup sour cream
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups all-purpose flour
1-1/2 teaspoons maple extract
Icing
½ cup butter
¼ cup milk
3-1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon maple extract
1 cup walnuts, chopped
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Boil water and butter in a saucepan.
Cream eggs, sugar, and sour cream in mixer or large mixing bowl.
In a separate bowl combine dry ingredients. Begin alternating the butter/water mixture and dry mixture into the egg/sugar mixture. Add maple extract and mix well.
Pour into a greased 15 x 10" pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 22 minutes or until cake tests done in the center.
While cake is baking, start the icing.
Boil butter and milk in a small saucepan. Remove from heat and add sugar and maple extract. Mix until smooth. Fold in walnuts.
Pour over cake about 5 minutes after it comes out of the oven. Spread evenly.
Enjoy warm or cold, cut to 48 bars and serve.
