I’ve tried not to buy into six months of media hype… they are such a beautiful couple, full of promise…and royals after all. I have felt like “OK, so that’s nice,” until this week. It’s embarrassing, I’m even excited for tomorrow.
I love a great wedding, especially when I’m not hosting it!
So we are ready to celebrate in our king-size bed, with
Royal Strawberries ‘n Cream Scones
with Vanilla Glaze
and cups of steamy herbal mint tea!
Tasty and tender, perfect for a Royal Tea Party. Let’s get mixing!
Combine dry ingredients and add softened butter…
with a pastry blender or fork, mix the butter into the flour well. Add diced fresh strawberries, gently coat with flour. Now add the cream, gently mixing by hand with a spatula. If you’ve got time you can refrigerate for 2 hours or overnight. Often I just mix it up and bake it though. It will be moist and sticky. Gently knead a few times on a lightly covered surface. Pat into a 8 to 10″ circle, about 1 inch thick and cut into 12 pieces. Sprinkle with about 2 tablespoons of sugar and bake in a 400 degree over for 20 to 25 minutes. Remove from hot oven and let cool for about 5 minutes. Drizzle with vanilla glaze and garnish with sliced strawberries.
Serve with a light, minty herbal tea…
“Keep Calm and Watch the Wedding!”
Best wishes for a lifetime of royal happiness…
I’m happy for Kate…I married a prince of a guy too!
{Royal} Strawberries ‘n Cream Sconeswith Vanilla Glaze
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons sugar, divided use
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons butter
1 cup strawberries (diced)
1-1/4 cups heavy cream
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, 1/4 cup sugar, baking power, and salt. Cut butter into dry ingredients. Stir in strawberries. Add heavy cream and stir by hand just until dough forms. Dough will be soft and sticky. Cover and refrigerate 2 hours or overnight. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently until dough just holds together. Press dough into a 8 to 10-inch circle. Cut into 12 wedges. Place scones on baking sheet and sprinkle scones with reserved sugar. Bake 20-25 minutes at 400 degrees or until scones are a light golden brown on top. Drizzle with Vanilla Glaze, garnish with sliced strawberries, and serve with lots of love and hot herbal tea! Makes 12 servings.
Vanilla Glaze
1 cups confectioners’ sugar
1 teaspoons milk
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon butter
Melt the butter and add to rest of ingredients. Mix until creamy and drizzle over hot scones.
Renée is passionate about making and sharing ALL things delicious! Her happy place really is her kitchen where she loves whipping up memories with her family and friends. Raised in sunny Southern California she's spent her adulthood in Idaho, both sides of her great state. She's married to an amazing man, and together they have 5 children, who gave them five more, and now they have 28 grandchildren. So there’s always a reason to cook and celebrate around their place!
I have to chuckle Gnee, I was stationed in England for Charles and Di, lived the hype. Haven’t thought twice about tomorrow until today… they do seem so young, sweet and genuinely in love, I’ll be tuning in before 6AM just to see what’s going on:@) Your scones are beautiful and will be perfect for the festivities-enjoy!
I love the scones you made (and the photos you took of them). I think they will be just the thing to enjoy while watching the wedding. I’ll be watching the beginning part of the wedding (before work) and then will watch the rest in re-runs.
I won’t be rising early to start watching the wedding but I’m sure there will be lots and lots of recaps. You scones look beautiful and I’m sure Williams and Kate would approve 🙂
Looks very yummy to me! I won’t even be thinking about their wedding because we serve in the temple all day tomorrow. I sure wish them happiness though. 😀
Isn’t she absolutely gorgeous? I love her smile and her eyes. I did a couple of royal posts too, but didn’t know there was a linky party, maybe it is a bit late, but think I will join up.
I did Ginger scones and mock Devonshire cream, I will have to try these, they look wonderful. Strawberry anything, yum.
Here I set watching the wedding and reading my favorite blogs! What a beautiful bride…all the pomp and circumstance that Brits do so well! The Strawberry Scones and mint tea- dreamy!
Wow! While I’m not your typical follower… I just wanted to comment mostly on your amazing photography skills! All your photos are clear and well composed and with great lighting! All very good… Keep it up!
Yum! Your scones look divine and I too was eager to celebrate with Kate and William. I found you from the Tidy Mom Linky. I adore all the contributions from crafty/clever ladies. If you’ve got a moment, please link up this gorgeous recipe over at Momtrends on our Friday Food Linky:
I’ve been up since 5am enjoying all the amazing coverage. I’m swinging by from Crafty Soiree. Your scones look divine. I did a small tablescape last night in honor of the wedding. Have a jolly good weekend!
Coming over from Funky Junk Int! This is lovely and I am definitely going to try these! My girlfriends came over this morning and we ate breakfast and watched! Will be such a great memory! Thanks for sharing this! New follower, Christie threepixielane.blogspot.com
Oh my, those scones look decadent!! Watching the royal couple’s big day was wonderful – especially those amazing hats. Have a great day and thanks for sharing!
I love scones, and these look fabulous! I was up at 2:35 AM the day of the wedding and took blueberry scones and tea to a friend’s house to watch it with her. Westminster Abbey is such an amazing, historical structure. It was such a privilege to attend the memorial service of the 400th anniversary of the death of Queen Elizabeth I in the Abbey. (Kinda strange, the memorial of her death, but…) I LOVE the photos of the inside of the abbey during the ceremony. I this this union secures the future of the monarchy, at least for a couple generations.
Hi gnee! Thanks for sharing these superb scones last week on Fresh Clean and Pure Friday…..I featured it today on this week’s link up and hope that you can stop by and check it out, and possibly share another great post! Thanks again!
I have previously made scones for my family and they were loved by my family so I was excited to try these! I made this recipe and followed it, adding only cinnamon for extra taste. Somehow these did not turn out properly… the dough was very wet and the scones did not rise as they baked. Instead, they spread out over the baking sheet and flattened out. The scones had a very strange texture and looked like cake instead of the crumbly texture I expected… Any suggestions on what I did wrong?

Those look delicious! I was up at 4:oo to watch the wedding but did it sconeless.
My daughters and niece hosted a bevy of co-eds in the wee hours too. They had scones (purchased) and dreamed together.
Wasn’t it just beatiful?? I thought the sermon was a perfect charge to the couple. (To all of us!)
