Winter Car Kit
We just returned from a road trip with our kids to Washington for Thanksgiving. I was extra grateful that the mountain passes were clear and we had an uneventful trip, but that hasn’t always been the case. Several years ago we were traveling home on New Year’s Day when a car of coeds pulled into the left lane on icy snowy Idaho roads on top of us. Our big pick-up went flying off the road and rolled four times. We survived the crash with cuts and bruises and thanks to our seat-belts we were held tightly in the cab even though my door was torn off.
We are all busy decking the halls for the holidays. Please take a few minutes and get your car serviced and ready for winter driving too.

- Ice Scraper/Snow Brush
- Flashlight/Batteries
- Non-Clumping Kitty Litter (for traction)
- General First Aid Kit
- Blanket/Sleeping Bag
- Flares/Reflective Triangles
- Shovel
- Toolkit/Jumper Cables
- Cell Phone/Car Charger
- Non-Perishable Food/ Drinking Water

Oh my gosh, you are so lucky to have survived that accident? I hope the co-eds stopped to offer assistance or called for help. Winter driving in nasty stuff and in the mountains even more treacherous. Great advice!

We don’t winterize our cars here. That’s because we don’t have winter. We just have a few cold and dreary months with nothing white and sparkly to show for it. When it does snow, we all act like 5 year olds.
I think that winter car kit is a great idea, though. If I didn’t already have the Colorado sister’s gifts purchased, it would be an idea for her.

A car kit is a great holiday idea. I just shivered when I read about your accident. I don’t have any of those items in my car. I guess I better do something about that. Winter driving can be scary. Thanks for the reminder, Renee.

What a scary time for you…and a nice post which hopefully will help everyone stay safe this winter. I grew up in NY and know that this info would be a good checklist. I live down south now and no one drives when the flakes start falling.
